Newton County Man Charged in Boone County Incident

A Newton County man has been charged with battery in Boone County for assaulting a man after he allegedly took the victim’s truck.

According to the probable cause affidavit, the Boone County Sheriff’s Office was notified by the Newton County Sheriff’s Office a report of an assault. Deputies dispatched to the North Arkansas Regional Medical Center Emergency Room where the victim alleged he had been attacked and his truck stolen.

The victim told deputies he was assaulted by 36-year-old Jason Vanderpool, who he had known for several years. When Vanderpool came to his residence, he accused him of calling the police on him for stealing the victim’s truck. The victim stated Vanderpool came to his home two weeks prior and took his pickup truck without permission.

During the investigation, the victim told deputies he had a conversation with Vanderpool after he located his truck at a residence in Newton County. Vanderpool told the victim he would give him a used car and guitar in place of the truck. The victim told him he did not want the items and just wanted his truck back or he would call the police.

The following day, Vanderpool went to the victim’s home where he allegedly punched him on the face, left cheek and left side of his mouth. The victim stated the punch knocked him to the ground where Vanderpool proceeded to kicked him, causing him to crack his ribs.

The report states the victim suffered three fractured ribs, bruising and abrasions to his face.

Vanderpool is currently being held in the Boone County Detention Center on $15,000 bond. He was also ordered no contact with the victim.
