A life care specialist empowers patients to have knowledge and skills to take care of themselves, according to Erica Jones, a life care specialist from North Arkansas Regional Medical Center (NARMC).
Jones, Michelle Mitchel and Kim Rosson appeared on KHOZ's "Around The Table" to discuss that and more on Wednesday. Jones explained that such specialists inform patients how to take their medications and provide knowledge on opioids as well as behavioral and pain management.
The focus, she said is on pre-operational patients, but these specialists can help anyone who needs it. Mitchel offered additional details.
Mitchel said professionals such as she and Jones refer to a chart to locate patients who are dealing with pain, whether or not they are using an opioids.
When it comes to opioids, abuse can happen. Mitchel said the aim to prevent abuse via education. More was discussed during the broadcast.
