Hopes are High for Harrison to Turn Into Main Street Community Again

The nonprofit Historic Harrison Business Association (HHBA) hopes to turn Harrison into a Main Street, according to association president Mike Nabors.

Nabors appeared Tuesday with business owner Sonya Bruce on KHOZ's "Around The Table" to discuss what transpired at a Monday night meeting to discuss that vision. Nabors said the goal was to inform downtown property and business owners about the intention to turn Harrison into a Main Street Arkansas community again. Nabors said that hopefully it will aid implementing the strategic plan that was given for downtown in 2024.

Nabors said communities must apply to join the Main Street project. That process is currently underway.

The HHBA president said the application will get submitted online at the end of this month. Nabors also said the decision as to whether or not Harrison joins as a community will hopefully come down at the end of April or early May.

Bruce explained the heart of the main street community project. "It was primarily to making the area more appealing to--I guess shoppers or just [for people to be downtown," she said. Bruce added that, in her eyes, it was to offer a real feeling of community.

The aid that Main Street Arkansas provides ties into a national network. An archived page of the Arkansas Historic Preservation Program's website states that the "Main Street Arkansas program's association with the National Main Street Center, a resource facility set up by the National Trust for Historic Preservation, provides access to the very best consulting and training services available for downtown revitalization." More was discussed on the broadcast.

The full interview with Nabors and Bruce is on the "Around The Table" Facebook Page.
