Harrison National Guardsmen Head to Texas, Prepare for Deployment to Asia

Several National Guardsmen, including a group from the area, traveled to Texas Sunday morning to prepare to be deployed to Asia for a nine-month period.

Guardsmen from the Harrison armory were joined by others from Walnut Ridge and departed at 7:30 to go to a moblization station at Fort Bliss.

According to an official from the Arkansas Army National Guard, the deployment is in support of Operation Spartan Shield to build partner capacity in the Middle East to promote regional self-reliance and increase security among partner nations.

The guardsmen will complete mobilization training at Fort Bliss. They’ll later head to southwest Asia to serve as a security force by providing convoy and base security of United States military elements and assets friendly to the United States.

Including their train-up period, the guardsmen will be on orders away from their employers for roughly one year.
