Harrison Man Arrested for Incidents Involving Girlfriend, Grandmother

An area man was arrested after he allegedly tried setting his girlfriend’s belongings on fire and squirting lighter fluid on her grandmother.

The incidents led to five charges being filed against 32-year-old Joshua Joe Brasel of Harrison.

According to the probable cause statement, Brasel and his girlfriend were arguing March 23 and he told her to leave the residence, but he used a knife to deflate one of her tires. The woman’s sister arrived a short time later with a moving truck.

The woman said at that point, Brasel tried to set the house on fire, but she was able to use water to put the fire out. She says Brasel then poured lighter fluid on her bed and set the mattress on fire. The woman’s grandmother entered the room, and the suspect allegedly squirted lighter fluid on her.

Brasel is facing two felony counts of aggravated assault, single felony counts of reckless burning and aggravated assault on a family or household member and a misdemeanor count of criminal mischief in the first degree. He is free after posting $15,000 bond.
