Dan Dillard on Coalition Name Change and Drug Dangers

Dan Dillard from the Boone County Substance Misuse Prevention Coalition discussed the organization's new name and more on Tuesday.

Dillard appeared on KHOZ's "Around The Table" on Tuesday. He said the name change is the result of a vote by the coalition. "The rationale was- some of the connotation that we're seeing around the term abuse these days-one thing we endeavor to do is remove stigma," Dillard said. He said a connotation can often times makes a difference to people. Dillard also discussed International Overdose Awareness Day.

He said the vigil scheduled for that day, Aug. 31. went well. He said the insights and updates shared that day show that the problem is still existent. Dillard said the trend is still not where it should be. He said fentanyl is "particularly alarming," especially since it's laced into marijuana now.

Dillard highlighted another issue; the drugs are altered to look attractive to youth. This includes edibles like candy and other items. Aside from that, Dillard mentioned the upcoming Oct. 29 drug take back from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event will be at the new City Hall.
