On Wednesday Jamie Hunter from American Red Cross discussed a blood drive that took place at Camp Jack and the importance of donating.
Hunter said Wednesday during KHOZ's "Around The Table" that the blood drive went from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesday. The organization is asking people to donate. Hunter explained why the summer is a difficult time for donations.
"During the summer months, we lose our schools because everybody is out for school, and people are vacationing," she said. Because of this, Hunter said the organization's blood supply goes down about 20%. According to Hunter, COVID-19-related shortages are not a thing of the past.
"We are still facing shortages. It is not at the level that it was when we hit COVID, so we are rebounding from that thankfully," Hunter said. However, she added that the desired supply level still hasn't been reached.
Hunter stressed the safety of blood donation. She said even someone who had COVID-19 can donate blood. She said anyone who is healthy and recovered is eligible to donate their blood.
