Arkansas Gets Money to Help State Power Grid

Arkansas has received over $10 million in federal funding from the U.S. Department of Energy to strengthen the state's electric grid and mitigate the risk of power outages.

The funding is part of the Grid Enhancement Program and will be distributed in two payments over two years, with the first payment being $5.16 million and the second $5.14 million.

The state has recognized the importance of a resilient electric grid, especially in the face of recent natural disasters such as tornadoes and storms. Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders emphasized the critical role the electric grid plays in keeping the state functioning and expressed confidence that the investment will enhance the grid's resilience for future crisis events.

The grant is available to various entities involved in the electricity sector, including grid operators, electricity storage operators, generators, transmission owners or operators, distribution providers, and fuel suppliers. The state anticipates additional funding opportunities through the Grid Enhancement Grant program to further support grid improvements and enhance safety for Arkansans.
