20 Mile Police Chase in Baxter/Marion Co.

Suspect said "voices in his head" told him to do it.

From KTLO:

A man who led police on a 20-mile long pursuit says “voices in his head” told him to run. Forty-six-year-old Mitchell Edward Rolley of Flippin was arrested following the incident, which started in Gassville Sunday night, and is facing multiple charges.

According to the incident report, a Gassville officer attempted to make a traffic stop on the car Rolley was driving, after the tags came back expired, despite having a current sticker. When the officer activated his emergency lights, Rolley accelerated at a high rate of speed.

Rolley turned down Harding Boulevard in Cotter and then crossed the bridge over the White River and continued into Marion County. The pursuit then continued down multiple Marion County roads, lasting approximately 20 miles.

During the pursuit, Rolley allegedly tried to “brake check” the officer in an effort to disable his patrol unit. He also drove through a gate into a field and attempted to ram the patrol unit and then nearly struck a Flippin patrol unit while driving around it.

The pursuit finally ended, when Rolley’s vehicle ran off the road and struck a tree. After being removed from the vehicle, Rolley allegedly told officers he ran from law enforcement because he had a warrant and the “voices in his head” told him to run. He was then taken to Baxter Regional Medical Center for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash, before being booked into the Baxter County Detention Center.

While doing an inventory of the crashed vehicle, officers found a small baggy containing a crystal-like substance, which field tested positive for methamphetamine.

Rolley is facing felony charges of aggravated assault, fleeing and possession of methamphetamine, along with misdemeanors of theft by receiving, driving on a suspended license, no proof of insurance, having expired tags and reckless driving. His bond is set at $20,395.
