Prescribed Burns Planned for Bull Shoals, Norfork Areas

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) and the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission (AGFC) will conduct prescribed burns on public lands surrounding Norfork and Bull Shoals Lakes from Monday until April 1.

Locations scheduled for potential burning are Spring Creek/Point 13, Hwy. 125, Ozark Isle, Jones Point, Nave Ferry, CR 117, Longbottom, Big Bend, Point 6 and Carrollton Creek on Bull Shoals Lake and Pigeon Creek, Woods Point, George’s Cove, Camp Spencer, Chapin Point, Indian Head, Dillinger Point, Koso Point, Tracy Ferry, Devil’s Backbone, McGinn’s Point, Top of the Lake and Lankford on Norfork Lake.

Controlled burns will be conducted when weather conditions are favorable and will include timber stands and glade restoration areas. If hunting stands are located at any of these locations, officials ask they be removed immediately.

Prescribed burns improve timber health, wildlife habitat and are one of the most effective tools we have in preventing wildfires. The burns remove leaf and limb litter, remove excessive amounts of brush and shrubs and encourage the growth of native vegetation, which can improve erosion control.
