Today is the last day traffic will have to detour around a construction project in downtown Harrison.
Friday, the Arkansas Department of Transportation and the City of Harrison will hold a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony to official open the new Highway 65B Bridge over Crooked Creek beginning at 10:00 am.
The Bridge was closed in January 2024 to begin the replacement of the bridge connecting downtown to areas south including the Northwest Arkansas District Fairgrounds and the south campus of North Arkansas College of the University of Arkansas.
During an interview earlier this month on KHOZ's "Around the Table" program, Harrison Mayor Jerry Jackson said parking for the invent will be at Creekside with shuttle service available at the site of the ceremony south of the bridge around the intersection of Main Street and Lakeshore Drive. He added that several people will deliver remarks along with a performance by the Harrison High School Band.
According to the release from ARDOT, the new bridge replaces the previous structure and includes several major upgrades designed to improve safety, meet modern traffic demands, and enhance long-term durability. Improvements feature wider travel lanes, a dedicated center turning lane, a traffic signal, and expanded sidewalks on both sides of the bridge.
The project was completed by West Plains Bridge & Grading LLC at a cost of around $10 million.
