A former Superintendent of Schools in Alpena is returning to take the position once again.
In what has been a tough year for the school district after the sudden passing of Larry McKinney, the man he replaced as Superintendent is returning to the job.
Anthony Dowdy was the Superintendent of Schools at Alpena for a year before leaving to accept the Assistant Superintendent's job at Pocahontas at the end of the 2022 School Year. McKinney took over but his death in March forced the Alpena Board of Education to search again for a replacement. Former Harrison Superintendent Melinda Moss, who had just retired after her stint as Superintendent in the Joplin, Missouri School District, took over on an interim basis until a replacement could be found.
Now according to a report in the Harrison Daily Times, Dowdy has accepted a three-year contract to return to Alpena. The report indicates the position was offered and accepted during a meeting last week of the Alpena School Board.
