Arkansas Martin Luther King Jr. Commission Promotes Dr. King’s Ideology

The Arkansas Martin Luther King Jr. Commission is announcing the Unity in Community Fall Festival to Harrison on Nov. 17 at 3 p.m. This is one of several events scheduled for Harrison.

Dushun Scarbrough from the Arkansas Martin Luther King Jr. Commission joined KHOZ’s Around The Table on Tuesday to talk about the state agency. Scarbrough said their goal is to promote racial harmony, multicultural diversity and social equality for all Arkansans. The group has been working with the City of Harrison for about ten years. Scarbrough said he was invited to Harrison to help promote the ideology of King. “Harrison had some challenges,” Scarbrough said.

Scarbrough talked about an incident where an individual who lived outside of Harrison used a Harrison PO Box to promote “negative KKK information and display that throughout the world.” Scarbrough said the world would see that as incoming from Harrison. Scarbrough described Harrison as a “beautiful city that didn’t deserve that.” “We’ve been doing our best to dispel that negativity that hovers over Harrison Arkansas,” he said. The full interview with Scarbrough is on Around The Table’s Facebook Page.
